Chapter 6
Mr. Wiesel's physical state continues to deteriorate and his mental stability is in question. While he has adapted well and retained both faith and hope, arguably the reason for his survival so far, he is slowly becoming unresponsive to his environment. Elie notes that he carries a blank look and even shares a sinister smile. Mr. Wiesel has survive thus far in the death marches, proving his will and hope are stronger than his detrimental physical state. We also need to acknowledge that Elie serves to support Mr. Wiesel's survival state due to his increasing concern in his father's state of being. Change continues to envelope Mr. Wiesel, and it is apparent that such so far has been negative. I hope Mr. Wiesel retains connections with Elie, as well as his hope and will, because such aspects largely contribute to his survival efforts.

He looked all around him, taking it all in as if he had suddenly decided to make an inventory of his universe, to determine where he was and how and why he was there. Then he smiled. I shall always remember that smile. What world did it come from?” Page 90
